Connectivity: Aegis Data Open Access fibre network

Overview of carrier networks UK

Aegis has both Tier 1 and Tier 2 carrier options available to customers.

Aegis One Tier2 data centre considered as most robust and less prone to failures. Tier 2 is designed to host mission critical servers and computer systems, with fully redundant subsystems (cooling, power, network links, storage etc) and compartmentalized security zones controlled by biometric access controls methods. A Tier 1 data center is used by small business or shops.

Tier 1 available via BT. Aegis has specifically dug-in diversely routed 21C fibre to access the BT national network. This also allows different providers for each leg and diverse routes should a customer require this.

Our Tier 2 carrier network provides access to a national fibre network spanning the southern half of the UK, including local tail circuits from 100Mb to 10Gb which can be provided cost-effectively from multiple nodes within our data centre to customer sites or other facilities in the UK.

The Aegis One infrastructure is primarily based on Geo Networks fibre, making it the newest national network, and capable of supporting up to 88 wavelengths each of 10Gb, 40Gb or 100Gb. Many older fibre networks cannot support speeds above 10Gb.

Open Access Network connecting Aegis One DC, Godalming

Aegis One is one of the best connected, highly flexible Data Centres in the UK.

We have no ristriction in the use of current technology and we offer complete freedom of working with other partners.

This is made possible by direct, dedicated fibre connections to key Internet Exchanges enabling customers to benefit from connectivity to over 200 carriers through our innovative "wavelength cross-connect" to major internet exchanges. Aegis One is also highly flexible allowing customers to connect to any carrier of their choice or use our own connectivity. This means that there are no restrictions on the Carrier you use and you can work with an existing outsource or Carrier partner.

Our Speed of service range from 10MBs to 100GBs they are all available at compatative price. We Provide effective service in terms of the bandwith and network connectivity suppoting a range of models such as cloud Applications

With cost-effective connectivity between Aegis One and other Data Centres from 10Mb to 100Gb, Aegis One connectivity charges are benchmarked against key Data Centres around the London area to make Aegis One an attractive location for your data.

Aegis One also offers cost-effective and scalable internet access, using dedicated bandwidth and diverse routes including the option to connect to Europe and the USA, avoiding London Docklands completely. Customers can opt for fixed bandwidths, burstable or agree a "Network-as-a-Service" model to support their cloud applications.

The are well connected to a variaty of Data centers and provide secure connections.

Low latency connections to Docklands, City and Greater London area Data Centres including Equinix Slough are achieved through Layer 1 (optical) and Layer 2 (Ethernet) point-to-point dedicated circuits. This means that customers can install sensitive applications such as SAN replication between two Data Centres.

Aegis offers Flexibility in bandwidth and provides sustanable future upgrades reducing overall costs.

High bandwidths (1Gb, 10Gb and 40Gb/100Gb) and optical handovers for simplicity and low latency are also key offerings at Aegis One. Network connections are future-proofed through our decision to install dedicated fibre and customers can upgrade to the latest technology when required.

Aegis Data has worked with its network partners to pre-provision capacity to enable fast installations and upgrades to meet your business needs and recuse overall costs.

A wide range of protocols are used to meet every customers need.

Flexibility of connection protocols – Fibre Channel, Ethernet, MPLS, STM, etc.

Local access routes have been designed for complete separation of fibres, with Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) equipment for each leg being duplicated and located in separate Meet Me rooms within the Data Centre.

All of the above means that no matter what your preferred Carrier, network bandwidth, or Wide Area Network needs, Aegis One is able to provide the right connection.

Aegis One is carrier neutral meaning that there are no obstacles to any carrier connection to the site.

In addition Aegis takes this one step further by offering Open Access via key Aegis Interconnect Points in Equinix LD4/5, Telecity 8-9 Harbour Exchange (HEX) and Telehouse North (THN).

This enables us to offer the following connectivity options:

10Gb Ethernet connections from Aegis to the following Data Centres:

  • Docklands: Telehouse North/East/West, Telecity Harbour Exchange, Sovereign House, Meridian Gate, Bonnington House, Global Switch, London Hosting Centre, BIS Greenwich.

City: Telehouse Metro, City Lifeline, Interxion, Level 3 Goswell Road.

Outer London: LDeX (Staples Corner), Sentrum Colo (Hayes), Virtus (Enfield), Equinix LD 4&5 Slough, Netwise (Sutton).

National: NGD (Newport, Gwent), Iomart (Nottingham, Leicester, Glasgow).

  • Fibre Channel at 4Gb and 8Gb, OTN and STM protocols to all of the above Data Centres.

  • 1Gb and 100Mb Ethernet to all of the above and nationally.

  • IP Transit services from 10Mb – 10Gb are provided via multiple Tier 1 providers and LINX. There is also an option to be fed from Equinix LD5 Slough for internet connectivity to the USA via Manchester and to Europe via Kent, thereby avoiding London Docklands for resilience. We can provide preferential routeing via a chosen Tier 1 Carrier and fall-back to secondary carriers if required.

Latency

The technology used by our clients will offer better Management and Control over the network.

  • Through the use of dedicated fibre and DWDM equipment our network carrier partners can provide low latency point-to-point circuits at Layer1 and Layer2.

  • Layer 1 optical latency on the Aegis to HEX route is less than 0.5ms and on the Aegis to LD5 route 0.4ms.

Service providers selecting Layer 1 services can supply and operate their own routers and terminating equipment to provide full management and control of their network.
